Welcome to a moment of all but forgotten punk rock history.
It was a 17 March 1979 evening in Los Angeles, California. The largest organized west coast gathering of punk rockers (over 600) of all ages congregated for a whopping $5 head to listen/watch several local bands. Part-way through the event the LAPD begin poured into the venue reportedly, without warning and without provocation, and began roughing up attendees. What ensued has been described as a “disproportionate, knee-jerk response by an over-zealous police force,” and a tactical response to a phantom “life or death situation.”
Contained within this episode are tunes from the bands that played, or were slated to play, on that fateful night.
As always, thanks for listening!
